date in transaction

hello! i was wondering if i could change the date from DD/MM/YYYY to MM/DD/YYYY? I tried to change the format on sheets but it didn't reflect correctly in the months column

Oh my gosh, thank you for this tip to change the locale in Settings!!! My method was so roundabout -- this works so much better!

Yes - under the File menu for the sheet, there's a "Settings" entry. Change the "Locale" to your country - by default. it's the UK. Setting it to US worked for me, without having to change the formulas as Dianne suggests.

Yes you can - there's a way to get around it. Highlight the cells in that column, then go to Format > Number > Custom Date and Time. Choose the MM/DD/YYYY format. Then, when you enter a date, rather than typing in numbers (like, 10/1), type the name of the month followed by the number (like, October 1) and hit enter. It will reformat the date as 10/01/2025 and populate October as the month in the next column. If you type it in as a number (10/1) it won't work -- it'll process it as January 10. So just make sure to type the month name and day number from now on: October 1.
